Arakan Army Rescues Three Muslims Abducted by ARSA in Maungdaw

On May 5, 2025, in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, three local Muslims—Ma Mat Ayup (42), Iliyas (26), and Gofur Alam (47)—were abducted by around 15 armed members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) terrorist group, who accused them of sharing information with the Arakan Army (AA).

The next day, AA troops, aided by villagers from nearby Kwun Thee Pin and Leap Ywar, located and rescued the abductees near Leap Ywar Village. During the operation, two ARSA militants were captured along with weapons and ammunition.

This incident follows a similar confrontation on May 1, when ARSA opened fire on AA troops investigating their presence in U Shey Kya Village after receiving tips from local residents.
